U.S. Bank and Kroger Collaborate on New Prepaid Debit and Credit Cards

U.S. Bank announced that Kroger customers will receive rewards on newly issued credit cards and reloadable prepaid debit cards. Kroger shoppers will earn free groceries and fuel discounts by using their U.S. Bank cards.

November 8th is the start of the new card program upon which, existing Kroger cardholders’ accounts will transfer to U.S. Bank. The release states that customers will then have access to the added benefits of mobile banking and 24-hour customer service.

Cliff Cook, Chief Marketing Officer for U.S. Bank Retail Payment Solutions was quoted:

“This is an exciting milestone for U.S. Bank, and we’re confident the card program will offer Kroger’s loyal customers more value by rewarding them every time they shop – whether it’s inside one of their nearly 2,500 supermarkets or for everyday purchases.”

Competition among the grocery industry to attract and retain customers is at a peak level now with the numerous chains and the growing number of the big box warehouses and discount retailers in the market. By teaming with the financial services industry and listening to their customer base, grocers like Kroger are hoping to gain market share.

Kathy Kelly, President of Kroger Personal Finance stated:

“Kroger is thrilled to partner with U.S. Bank to offer and exciting suite of rewards cards that help Kroger customers to earn free groceries and fuel discounts. U.S. Bank shares our commitment to listening to customer and offering the right financial products that reward them for their loyalty.”
