JCPenney Pushes Gift Cards This Holiday

jcpenny-gift-cardToday, J. C. Penney Company, Inc. (NYSE: JCP) announced a variety of gift card options under the slogan: “Joy of Giving™”. JCPenney is pushing gift cards as a way to make gift giving easier by removing guesswork for customers and by allowing recipients to easily select a gift they want.

In their announcement earlier today, JCPenney introduced several ways to use JCPenny gift cards (in addition to using them for in-store or online purchase from JC Penneys), including:

  • Using JCPenney gift cards to make donations to The Salvation Army. JCPenney has teamed up with the Salvation Army to allow donors to purchase a gift card that can be shipped to the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army will then use the gift card to fulfill “Angel” requests under the Angel Giving Tree program.
  • Purchasing “red box gifts”. JC Penny gift cards can be used to purchase gifts from JCPenny’s “red box” gift collection (which are unique gifts selected for this holiday season).
  • Purchasing Gifts from This Seasons “Must-have Brands”. JCPenney gift card recipients can use their gift cards from a special collection of “today’s must have brands”, including Levi’s®, Nike®, JOE Joseph Abboud®, etc.
  • Taking Advantage of Convenient in-store Services. JCPenney gift cards can also be used for services (not just merchandise). JCPenney gift card recipients can redeem their cards for a variety of convenient in-store services such as a haircut at one of JCPenney’s salons; new eyewear, contacts or an eye exam at JCPenney Optical; a family portrait or photo greeting card at one of JCPenney’s portrait studios; a new living room or bedroom look with the help of a JCPenney custom decorating professional; or beauty products and/or a makeover at a Sephora inside JCPenney.
